I just wanted to write a quick post...sometimes injuries can be prevented and other times they're freak accidents. Mine is probably a combination of the two. As most of you know, last night I went down hard. I first thought someone hit my heel or ankle with a bat. Not the case and I soon realized I sustained some sort of injury. My worst fears were realized this afternoon when I visited an orthopedic surgeon. He quickly assessed that I have a fully ruptured Achilles tendon. Ouch...well, actually, there's not much pain when neutral, just very limited mobility and strength. I'm having surgery Tuesday morning and will take all of next week off. My full recovery time should last around 6 weeks. And in most of that time I hope to continue x-fit w/ modified workouts. I think I'm going to improve on my ring dips, pull ups and sit ups at the very least.
Does anyone out there have experience with this type of injury and recovery?

Jason,
Sorry to hear about the injury.
Hoping you have a speedy recovery and hope to see you back in the dirty box soon!
Jason,
Sorry you got hurt. Crazy week for you, from a PR to being broke. Stay strong.
Jason, what up with that? Hope all is good Bro. I told you that you needed to harness those cat like qualities of yours. For real, get well soon.
J,
Sorry to hear about that. And, after my stupid post on worrying about taking a couple of days off, but I guess the theme was timely. Be really careful after surgery. 6 weeks off will definitely be a big set back, but I look at Ash who is now having his second surgery on the same joint. You can only do that shit some many times. Even ring dips have to potential to really fuck you up. Like I said, 6 weeks is a huge setback, but falling on that shit after the surgery could be permanent.
As for the recovery, ask Fiona (fionalee13@gmail.com). She's one of the 5 am trainers that works at a physical therapy place.
In my professional experience, once you get around late 20s/early 30s, one gets more suseptable to an achilles, soleus/gastroc rupture. It does take surgery to reattach the Achilles tendon, and takes 6-8 weeks to for the healing process to take full effect. Afterwards, stiffness in the calf accompanied by some pain when trying to walk on it. With good PT and rehab it shouldn't take long to build back strength and flexibility in that region. Single leg movements, upper body work, and plenty of core work are easiest to do with such an injury.
V,
I thought your professional experience was performing at bachlorette parties???
It is! I dress up as the doctor or Athletic Trainer. Don't forget I used to work in an Athletic Training in Sac before I moved to Man Jose. I do know a little something about medical stuff and treatments.
